I’ve loved blazers since I scored my first one- a vintage DVF from a consignment store in the Loop in St. Louis. Then there was the tweed one my aunt bought me when I first moved to Chicago as a young 23 year old “professional” working just off Michigan Avenue. When blazers came into my life I discovered my fashion archetype in a garment that epitomizes everything I want my style to be- timeless, elevated, chic and oh so functional. But for as much as I love blazers, my closet isn’t full of them. You really only need 1 great blazer to experience the amazing effects. And if you buy the right one, you’re set for life or at least for many good years. Talk about amazing cost per wear!
So let’s unpack what makes a blazer great:
In my opinion every woman should have a black, not too fitted but not too oversized blazer made from natural fabrics- preferably a worsted/tropical wool. Trust me, fabric matters. You can tell the difference visually, environmentally and from an energetic level if your blazer is made from polyester or even a blend. I’m particularly fond of our fabric as it’s milled in the US which is a dying art in this country.
Another thing that makes the Vincent James blazer stand out is the ability to wear it buttoned to function as your top. I’ve always wanted this from a blazer but had a hard time finding the right one. The V is just deep enough to be interesting but not too deep to lose the timeless versatility (aka you can comfortably wear this in front of your in-laws or to work but it’s definitely not demure). It’s also an effortless but always elevated piece to throw on over everything from an evening dress to jeans and a t shirt (the worsted wool fabric provides this versatility as you wouldn’t pair a cotton blazer with an evening dress). The only place I can think that I wouldn’t wear this blazer is to the beach.
If you need more convincing of the power of a black blazer, below are some timeless inspo photos all built with just 1 beautiful garment as the foundation.

Thank you for being here and for your style!
