How’s your regenerative journey going? I’m here to remind you that it’s not about perfection! I’ve had a moment or two where I gave into cravings and honestly I’m not mad about it at all. I don’t believe strict restriction is the way to go, rather learning how to listen to your body, learn from and navigate your choices based on what truly feels best for you.
One thing that I’m still certain feels right is the early morning sun/sky exposure without technology. I did sneak this photo but kept my phone on airplane mode. Notice the man on his bike out on the sand bar.
Another thing that’s feeling good this week is fasting in the morning until about 1-2 (besides the butter coffee). Fasting gives your body time to rest and restore (aka regenerate) by a process called autophagy which many studies show is anti-aging. I’ve read that it depends on the time in a women’s cycle whether it’s recommended she fast or not (just prior to and during menstruation it’s not recommended- no surprise there). Again, listen to your body!
Lunch has been pretty much the same as last time except for the needed cheeseburger on gluten-free bun (PS if you’re in Charleston, Edmund’s Oast makes an amazing homemade gluten free bun. The breakfast sausage and egg casserole I’ve been making for my family for breakfast has typically been my lunch with a side of sauerkraut and fruit. Simply cook a package of ideally regeneratively raised pork, bison or beef sausage and mix the cooked meat with 6-8 eggs and bake at 375 until the eggs are formed. We add the grated raw cheese from our favorite local food grocer after it’s cooked A. because that way it’s still raw and B. one of my children is severely allergic to dairy. Supporting a regenerative farm is a great way to use your dollars and voice to support farmers who are doing things right. The recent rain in California has been a problem for conventional farms but because of the quality of the soil in regenerative farms, they’ve been able to capture and store the water in the ground where it should be. Staying true to the natural systems of nature results in healthier food, land, communities and local economies.

Dinner is more of the same- steak, salmon, chicken meatballs and veg (usually mushroom) sides. The sauerkraut is tasting really good lately and is an excellent source of Vitamin C especially essential this time of year and always for collagen formation. Another thing that’s tasting good is the organ blend from Force of Nature. These organ blends are popping up more and are a great way to get the nutrient dense organ meats in your diet. My kids don’t notice a difference except for my son with the allergies who says it’s his favorite meat.

And then of course the oysters….how are you doing with these? It can be hard especially depending where you live. And of course oysters aren’t cheap especially when you have 3 kids who also love them! Oyster Max is one of the few supplements I take (real food sourced supplements are always best when done right as you’re getting the most bioavailable form of the vitamin (in this case zinc) you can get. Zinc is so important for detoxification and even EMF protection.

Drinks have been more bone broth (tutorial coming soon) so much tea: fresh lavender and mint blend sometimes with a bit of honey is a favorite as well as simple parsley tea for the vitamin C and anti-bloating benefits, and I must confess a couple glasses of wine last night. My husband and I had a rare chance to catch up about things other than soccer schedules and what’s for dinner and the wine felt right for the moment. Bonding is definitely something that contributes to wellness and what can I say, wine can help with that sometimes!

Since we’re on the topic of Regeneration I can’t help but mention our regenerative designs that we’re so proud to offer. The coming soon Wide Leg Trousers made with Texas grown and 100% US made regenerative organic cotton are a dream to me. We’re also finalizing the design for a knit tank and similar dress made from 100% domestic organic cotton/merino blend that’s seasonless and so effortless. I picture these pieces at an outdoor concert, vacation dinner or summer stroll in the city. Then of course there’s the soil + climate beneficial pieces: the cardigan is restocking next week and the duster now available in 2 lengths. Finally we have a few of the ribbed knit skirts left. This regenerative organic cotton and modal blend won’t be restocking but we trust our organic cotton supplier, California Cloth Foundry will have other amazing fabrics for us soon.

I hope you’re feeling rested + inspired.
With gratitude,
Heather
