I’ve been thinking a lot about the Carolyn Bessette Kennedy effect specifically as it relates to the styling of the character who portrays her in the new movie. I saw a lot of commentary (via the_twomrs and elsewhere) saying it was off and from what I’ve seen so far, I’d have to agree- but simply because it’s not about the clothes. It’s about the woman and the nuanced ways she wore things. It’s about authenticity.
If you’ve been here a bit, you know I talk a lot about resonance, frequency and vibration. And according to the “experts” the highest frequency isn’t actually love, it’s authenticity. I believe we can feel/see that in a soul but also in art. And I would absolutely argue that the way we dress is an artistic expression.
I think what we admire about a “stylish” women is that she makes a look her own with a personal swagger unique to her mood, experiences and point of view and expressed through the way she wears her clothes- that can’t be cloned. CBK and so many other “stylish” women wore/wear beautiful clothing but with an authentic nonchalance that comes from every facet of who they are as a person. I don’t believe you can re-create looks because you can’t re-create the woman.
With all of that being said, I think it’s important to remember that the most memorable looks, the ones that make us feel our best, are often inspired but never cloned. Inspiration, ubiquitous as it is these days, is a good thing when used appropriately and in the context described above. Here are a few images that to me have that “je ne sais quoi” and how they would inspire me to style Vincent James pieces…

Thank you for being here. I hope this inspires you to dress for your mood and the uniquely beautiful woman that you are!
