Ischia
When my husband booked the somewhat last minute flights to Rome after a celebratory Friday lunch I first felt excited and then, if I’m being honest, a little overwhelmed. I had never been to Italy and my aspirations for the trip were as large as my to-do list of things to accomplish at home in the coming 6 weeks including a move, renovations, 4 kids + their end-of-year requirements, 2 graduations, and running Vincent James. I wanted everything to be as seamless + beautiful as it could be both at home and once we went abroad.
I had known Louisa Van for a few years as the owner of my favorite children’s boutique and very stylish + in the know woman. When I saw that she was working with Fora as a luxury boutique travel advisor I knew that when I went on “that” trip, I’d love to have her help us. It turned out to be the best decision we made because we didn’t have to make most of the decisions at all but still knew the experience would be spectacular and customized to our taste.
Louisa booked the perfect hotels for our budget and vibe (including the complimentary upgrade), transportation outside of flights, spa services and half of the dinners so I didn’t have to research or think about it. We played the others by ear which to me is perfect. I don’t like to be over-scheduled when traveling but I do like to make sure I get into the places I want.
We landed in Rome and had a car take us directly to the island of Ischia and into her thermal pools which turned out to be the perfect way to start our trip, recover from the jet leg and regenerate from the previously mentioned 6 weeks of chaos at home. Highly recommend!
STAY
Mezzatorre: The thermal pools, mud wrap, massage, restaurant, pool, Mediterranean swim, grounds, service…everything about this place was magical! We couldn’t stay here the entire time because it was booked during some of our dates but I would consider that before buying your flights. I didn’t want to leave!

San Montano: This was also very beautiful and included a spectacular sea view from the balcony. A lovely choice with many outdoor thermal pools and stunning views in every direction.
DO
Spa, thermal pools, eat, pool, swim in the Mediterranean, boat, beach, watch the sunsets, repeat.
WEAR
Flats only especially at Mezzatorre. There are a lot of hills and old stone walking paths. I wore black leather flip flops (one of the 3 pairs of shoes I brought) the entire time except for our arrival, morning walk and departure to Rome when I wore these with which I’m obsessed. The rest was elevated, effortless and chic. The women were well-dressed but not at all fussy. The locals wore lots of white linen. I fit in ;). It got chilly at night and in the morning so a light sweater was perfect.

Edie dress black (perfect for the day traveling back to Rome with the regenerative cardigan ready to hit the ground running.

Details on the Roma portion of our trip coming soon.
